How do prismatic and glass bead reflective films differ?

There are two different ways to make a label reflective. One method uses microscopic beads that have a metallized coating and the other method uses microprisms. An example is 3M's HIS film. Prismatic films use cube cornered geometry to bounce back reflected light. 3M's VIP film is an example of this technology. Generally, the prismatic films are brighter.
