This section gives you an overview of the most common materials and constructions for signs, tags and labels. Certain materials can be used for your own on-site label production, using your laser printer, ink jet printer or thermal printer.

Most sign and label materials are first manufactured by just a handful of large plastic suppliers, such as DuPont, ICI and 3M. Most materials carry an adhesive backcoat that is actually applied to the liner and then laminated to the base film in rolls.

For flat-bed printing presses, the master rolls are “sheeted” into bulk, flat sheets
