Tape is buried between the electrical line and the surface of the ground . The tape helps provide a defense against accidental dig-ins. APWA guidelines indicate that red tape should be used for electrical lines, orange for telephone and fiber-optic lines. Tapes are made of low density polyethylene and are highly stretchable.
