The ideal way to
mark URD should be fast, non-corrosive, tamper-resistant, permanent
and inexpensive. The two most popular tag systems meet these
requirements and can be filled out with nothing more than a
pencil or pen. These inexpensive plastic tags often use a self-laminating
flap.
Increasingly, utilities
are shifting away from schemes involving slide in numbers. These
schemes are just too time-consuming to complete, reveal too
little information, require too many stocking parts and can
be quite frustrating to assemble for all but the most dexterous
and patient and well-organized linemen [3]. "These
are three times faster and half the price of others."
