Design a Label Using a Wizard

In this section, you become the "wizard". You will be given the basics for creating signs, tags and labels from SmartSigns Wizard. Depending on the software package you have purchased, the Wizard displays a variety of labels including: Hazardous Waste Labels, DOT Shipping Labels, Signs and Labels, Right-To-Know Labels, Lock-Out/Production Tags, Pipe Markers, Bar Code Labels, and Office Labels.

Windows 95 Users

  1. Click the Start button on the taskbar and select Programs.
  2. Move the mouse cursor over the program group that contains Bear Rock Software. Note: If you accepted the default program group during installation, there will be a Bear Rock Software program group.
  3. Click on theBear Rock Software v4 icon to launch the program. Note: Windows 95 users also have the option of using a shortcut icon to start the program.

Windows 3.1 Users

  1. Locate the program group that contains the Bear Rock Software icon.
  2. Double-click on the BRL4 icon to start the application.

Your package may not look exactly like these screens. Certain software packages may have a smaller number of sign templates available. We strongly encourage you to contact your safety distributor and purchase the Suite package of the software. This larger package vastly expands the number of designs, symbols and types of labels, thereby making compliance with the latest regulations even easier.

 

To create a new wizard job:
  • Click on Design a Label Using a Wizard button in the Opening Screen.
                                  
  • The next window shows the various Wizards that are available with your software package. We will be using the Signs and Labels portion of the Wizard. Click on the Signs and Labels, and click on Next.
                                                     
  • From this window, you may choose up to six subcategories under Signs and Labels. For this demonstration, we will use ANSI Designs
                                                    
  • Notice the middle of the screen allows you to choose from a variety of jobs by clicking on Choose a design from the list. Scroll down to Wide 4.5" x 7" on sheets and click on this design. A preview of the job appears at the right.
                                                         
  • Click on the next button and follow the on-screen instructions to fill in your label. The program will prompt you to fill in statements that correspond with your label. In this instance, it asks you to fill in the Primary Message and Secondary Message. After this, click Next.
                                                           

  • The program may prompt you to fill in the appropriate graphic. In this case, the Header and Symbol. Click on Choose Your Graphic. This will take you to the Clipart Gallery. From this area, you may choose the correct graphic to match your message.
  • (Note: if you click on the arrow under the description of the defaulted graphic, you may switch categories of graphics. For example: Headers ANSI, Lockout/Tagout, NFPA Special Hazards, etc.)
                                                       

  • Next click on Choose Your Symbol. Again, this will take you to the Clipart Gallery, choosing the appropriate graphic to match your message.
  • In this case, we have choosen the protective eyewear, goggles. Click OK and return to your original screen.
                                                        
  • Your screen should now look something like the screen shot shown below.
                                                          
  • Click the Next button and you are ready to print. This template is set up to print 4 on an 8.5" x 14" sheet in a landscape orientation.
                                                       
  • You will note that there are extras options to help you print: Nudge Printout helps you line up your job, just incase your printer margins are different than the originally formatted job.
  • The other option is ready to check for those of you selecting to print all non-printing items, such as a header
                                                      
  • The last screen of the Wizard allows you the option of Saving Your Job and/or going to the edit screen for further modifications.
