Installation
of SmartSigns Software |
Before attempting to install SmartSigns Software, make
certain that your system meets the following requirements:
- Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51 or higher
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher
- DOS 5.0 or higher required when using Microsoft Windows 3.x
- A personal computer with a 486 or higher processor
- 8 MB of RAM (16 MB recommended)
- CD-ROM drive (or a 1.44 MB floppy drive for diskette
installation)
- Properly installed Windows compatible mouse
- Minimum 16 MB of hard disk space
- VGA or higher graphics card and monitor
The following procedure assumes that
you have installed Windows and are familiar with basic Windows terminology. If you are new
to Windows, please refer to your Windows manual. If this is a upgrade from Version 3.0 to
Version 4.0, go to Step 1. If this is a first time install of SmartSigns, skip to Step 2
for Windows 95 users and Step 3 for 3.1 Window users.
Upgrading from 3.0 to Version 4.0
Prior to upgrading, please review any new files that you might have created in Version
3.0. If you made no changes, go directly to the installation instructions for version 4.0;
Step 2 for Windows 95 users and Step 3 for 3.1 Window users.
If you created new jobs move these files with the linked
databases to a temporary folder -- follow these instructions:
Step 1: Uninstall the 3.0 version and
install the 4.0.
Step 2: Move your files from the temporary folder to
defaulted directory (assuming that you used the default directory during installation --
c:\Program Files\Bear Rock Labeler V4\Premade\Special
To install Software:
- Click the Start button on the Taskbar.
- Move your mouse cursor over the Settings selection.
- Slide the mouse cursor over to and click on the Control
Panel Folder.
- Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click on the Install button and follow the on-screen
directions.
Alternative SmartSigns Software method of installation:

- Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click on the Start button on the Taskbar and click on Run.
- In the Run dialog box type d:\setup, (where "d" is
the CD-ROM drive letter), in the text box and click on OK or press ENTER to begin the
installation process.

- Click on the Next button to continue with the installation
process.

- Read the License Agreement in the manual or on the screen.
|

- Enter your name, company and serial number. Your manual
should have a serial number indicated on it for the Software.
- The software will determine if you have a valid serial
number. Note that SmartSigns Software is available in several options, ranging from the
introductory package for Signs & Tags to the Deluxe Safety package. The Deluxe package
is highly recommended in that countless templates, designs and symbols are added. Call
your salesperson for an upgrade.

- At this point, SmartSigns will automatically assign a
directory that will store all of the pertinent information you will need to accurately run
the program.

- Choose Typical, Compact, or Custom Setup for the Setup Type.
- Note: To install the program to a different drive or folder
other than the default location, click on the Browse button.

Typical Setup installs Bear Rock Program Files, the Wizard
Help file, the on-line tutorial, 100 TrueType fonts, a hand-full of SmartSign Clearview
fonts made specifically for high legibility, and over 400 high quality clip art symbols
specifically designed for the Safety Industry. It is the recommended setup option.
Compact Setup installs only the Program Files. These are
the files that are essential to running Bear Rock Software, taking up the minimum of hard
disk space. If you select this option, skip to step 10.
Custom Setup prompts you to select the drive and/or folder
Bear Rock Software installs to and allows you to choose which components of the program to
install.
Note: If the Program Files have been previously installed,
the Custom Setup can be used to install the Clip Art and/or fonts to the same or a
different folder.
Select which of the components (Program Files, TrueType
Fonts, Clip Art Files, etc.) you want to install by clicking on the check box to the left
of each item. If a box is checked, that component will be installed. Click on the Next
button.

- Select a program folder from the Existing Folders list box
or type a new folder name in the Program Folder box, then click on Next.
- Click the Next button to confirm the Current Settings and
begin copying SmartSigns Software files.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
installation.

- After installation, the program will query you for a
shortcut on your desktop.

- The last screen will prompt you to restart your computer.

Windows 3.1 Users
- Start Windows 3.1 and access the Program Manager.
- Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Select the Run command from the Program Manager's File menu.
- In the Command Line text box type d:\setup, (where "d"
is the CD-ROM drive letter), and click on OK or press ENTER to begin the
installation process.
- Follow the installation process (refer to Windows 95 Users, page 6).
Windows 95 has a built-in application to
Add/Remove Programs
To remove SmartSigns Software:
- Click the Start button on the Taskbar.
- Move your mouse cursor over the Settings selection.
- Slide the mouse cursor over to and click on the Control Panel Folder.
- Double-click on the Add/Remove Program icon.
- From the list of applications click on Bear Rock or SmartSigns
Software.
- Click on the Add/Remove button.
- Select Yes to confirm file deletion.
- Choose OK to return to the Add/Remove Program dialog box.
Choose OK to exit the Add/Remove Program Properties dialog box.
To fully remove the SmartSign Clearview fonts, you will
need to re-boot your system.
Windows 3.1 Remove Programs
Please follow these instructions to remove SmartSigns
Software:
- Open File Manager.
- Find the following path: c:\brbcl3
- Delete this directory.
- Go to a DOS prompt and type: c:\cd \windows\system
(IMPORTANT NOTE: you will be able to do this if you have no other
application that has installed win32s. SmartSigns or any other affiliate assumes no
responsibility for your decision to perform this operation; as it may disrupt the ability
to run another program.)
- Type deltree win32s <enter>
- At the same prompt, type del win32s.ini <enter>
- At the same prompt, type c:\windows, type edit
system.ini <enter>
- Find the following directory: c:\windows\system\win32s\w32s.386 and delete this line.
- Save the file and exit.
To fully remove the SmartSign Clearview fonts, you
will need to re-boot your system.
