Dead Soft Aluminum Markers, DS
  1. Scope. This specification covers adhesive labels made from embossable dead-soft aluminum. Typical applications include reel inventory markers and labels for fire extinguisher inspection records.
  2. Base Material. The base material shall be a 0.002" thick matte aluminum with a 0.0035" thick, high performance acrylic adhesive. The base material shall be capable of debossing when written on with a ballpoint pen or pencil. The base material shall have a 90 pound polycoated kraft liner with a thickness of 0.007".
  3. UL Listing. The material shall be UL recognized.
  4. Size. The labels shall have the following dimensions: (choose one)

  1. Chemical Resistance. The material shall have the following resistance to exposure:

  1. Adhesive. The adhesive shall be a solvent based acrylic adhesive having the following values (on stainless steel using PSTC #1 at 70ºF and a 24 hour dwell):

  1. Operating Temperature Range. The markers must be capable of operation within the temperature range of -30ºF to +300ºF with no obvious degradation or signs of wear or peeling/flagging.
  2. Printing. Conventional solvent-based or UV inks shall be used. The printing type style shall be Helvetica or Univers.
  3. Tab. The label shall have a tab along one side of the label having a width of 0.125" so that the liner can be removed easily.
  4. Weathering. The label shall be weathered using ASTM D4329 and UVA 340 lamps. After 5,000 hours of exposure in a QUV weathering deck the label shall remain adhered and readable. Sample of weathered and printed label shall remain on file at label manufacturer and is available for review by the customer.
  5. Installation. The labels shall be applied to a clean, dry surface. Use a 3M Scotchbrite pad (or equivalent) to remove any surface oxidation, dirt or paint chalking from application surface and to rough up the surface. After this treatment the surface shall be cleaned with Surface Prep 77 or equal. Labels shall be applied at temperatures above 45ºF.
  6. Packaging. 25 labels shall be packaged in a polyethylene bag or vacuum formed package. Bags or packages shall be packaged in a corrugated carton. The outside of each box shall be labeled with the bar-code legend sequence, the part number and/or utility code number, description and quantity.
  7. Warranty. The products are to be guaranteed by the vendor to be free of workmanship or material defect. If, during the warranty period, for reasons of workmanship or material defect, the label becomes non-reflective, unreadable, delaminated or exhibits some other condition causing the label to be no longer useful, the vendor shall replace the label at no additional charge.
