Calendered Vinyl Labels for Low Temperature Application, LV
  1. Scope. This specification covers calendered vinyl labels with a low-temperature adhesive. Examples include labels used on warehouse shelves, meters, drums, shipping containers and pipes. Labels are made of an extended life vinyl designed for long outdoor durability.
  2. Materials. The base film shall be a 0.0037" thick flexible vinyl film. The base film may a solid white, yellow, blue, green or red. The base film shall have a minimum thickness of 0.0012" of a solvent-based, acrylic adhesive and a paper liner. The liner shall be a 90# type with a thickness of 0.007".

  1. Adhesive Performance. The adhesive shall be a 0.001" thick acrylic adhesive having the following minimum values:

  1. Chemical Resistance. The material shall have the following resistance to exposure using DIN 42 115 Part 2:

  1. Weathering. The label shall be weathered using ASTM D4329 and UVA 340 lamps. After 5,000 hours of exposure in a QUV weathering deck the label shall remain adhered and readable. Sample of weathered and printed label shall remain on file at label manufacturer and is available for review by the customer.
  2. Printing & Processing. Conventional screen printed, solvent-based or UV vinyl inks shall be used. Labels shall have a backslit liner so that the liner can be easily removed.
  3. Packaging. Labels shall be packaged in a polyethylene bag or shrink-wrapped package. Each bag or package shall be identified with the item description, inspector, date, quantity and part number. Bags or packages shall then be packaged in a corrugated carton. Each carton shall contain only one label design. The outside of each box shall be labeled with the part number and/or utility code number, description and quantity.
  4. Size. The labels shall have the following dimensions: height x width
  5. Installation. The labels shall be applied to a clean, dry surface. Use a 3M Scotchbrite pad (or equivalent) to remove any surface oxidation, dirt or chalking from application surface and to rough up the surface. The surface shall then be cleaned with Surface Prep 77 or equal. Labels shall be applied at temperatures above -20ºF.
  6. Warranty. Workmanship and quality shall be such that all lettering is sharp, legible, straight, and aligned properly. Smudges, misalignment, mis-wording, misspelling, crooked letters, incorrect color, incorrect materials, and any other problems that show poor quality and workmanship will give sufficient cause to reject any label. The products are to be guaranteed by the vendor to be free of workmanship or material defect.
