Lock-Out Tags, P2
  1. Scope. This specification covers standard and self-laminating polyester tags commonly used for lock-out, inventory control or URD location.
     
  2. Base Material & Writable Coating. The base material for the tags shall be made of white polyester film. The thickness of the polyester material shall be 0.010" (+/- 0.005"). The front of the tag shall have a coating that is receptive to a mark from a pencil, pen or marker. This coating shall have the following characteristics:
    Coating Weight 1 pounds/1,000 sq ft (+/- 6%)
    Coating Thickness 0.0004" (+/- 0.0001")
    Surface Friction as measured with a Kayeness Friction Tester at 400 grams 35 - Coating on Steel 20 - Steel on Steel
    Densitometer reading using GAM #126P and a 0.50" square pencil mark on a white tag 1.14, HB Pencil 1.05, H Pencil 1.00, 2H Pencil
    Defacement of Writing Pencil marks of a 2H pencil cannot be rubbed off using hand pressure.

 

  1. Overlaminating Flap [optional]. The tag shall have [one or two] overlaminating flap[s] made of a 0.002" clear polyester film with a 0.0011" thick solvent-based acrylic adhesive. The flap shall be pressure sealed 1-1/2" to 3" from the top of the tag. The part of the overlaminating flap not pressure sealed shall have a 90 pound white paper liner. The adhesive on the back of the overlaminating flap shall have the following characteristics:
    Peel Strength (PSTC #1) 3.5 #/in @ 70ºF and a 72 hr dwell
    Shear Strength (PSTC#7) 15 hours for 1 sq inch of polyester
    Application Temperature greater than 35ºF

"P0" tags have no flaps; ‘P1" tags have a single flap and "P2" tags have two flaps.

 

  1. Plastic Grommet (Optional). A plastic, non-conductive grommet having an inside diameter of 1/2" shall be installed on each tag. The grommet shall be centered on the width of each tag and the centerline of the hole shall be 0.50" to 1.00" from the top of the tag.
     
  2. Brass Eyelet. A 5/16" ID eyelet shall be installed on each tag.
     
  3. Ties [optional]. The tags shall be packaged with an equal number of tie wraps. The tie tensile strength shall be at least 50 pounds.
     
  4. Ink Color & Printing. The printing type style shall be Helvetica or Univers. Colors shall follow ANSI Z535.1-1998 and shall be as follows:

  1. Weathering. After 5,000 hours of exposure in a QUV weathering deck the tag shall have no noticeable fading or other damage.
     
  2. Size & Corner Round. The tags shall have the following dimensions:

    3" x 5.75"
    4" x 6"
    4" x 9.5"
    ____" x ____"

    The corners of each tag shall have 1/4" corner radius.

  4. V-Notch [optional]. Each tag shall have a 0.125" deep V-Notch centered at the bottom of each tag to allow the tag to be destroyed when desired.
     
  5. OSHA. The tags shall meet the requirements of OSHA 1910.147 and 1910.269 and ANSI Z535.5 – 1998.
     
  6. Physical Characteristics of Finished Tag. The finished tag shall have the following characteristics:
  • Tensile Strength at Grommet: The tensile strength at the eyelet of a finished tag should be greater than 100 pounds for a tag with one flap ("P1") or greater than 110 pounds for a tag with two flaps ("P2") or greater than 70 pounds for a tag with no flaps ("P0").
  • Water Resistance: Finished tag shall withstand being submerged in water at 70ºF for a period of 21 days without any damage.
  • Solvent Resistance: Tag shall with stand immersion in gasoline for a period of 2 hours with no damage.
  • High Temperature Resistance: Finished tag shall withstand a temperature of 150ºF in a circulating oven for a period of 2 hours with any damage.
  • Izod Impact Test: Tag shall withstand an impact of 160 ft lbs and not crack.
     
  1. Packaging. 25 tags shall be banded together and packaged with 50 ties in a polyethylene bag or a vacuum-formed package. Bags or packages shall be packaged in a corrugated carton. Each carton shall contain the same tag. The outside of each box shall be labeled with the part number, utility code number, description and quantity. Each carton shall not exceed 50 pounds. A sample tag shall be posted on an outer wall of each carton.
     
  2. Warranty. Workmanship and quality shall be such that all lettering is sharp, legible, straight, and aligned properly. Smudges, misalignment, miss-wording, misspelling, crooked letters, incorrect color, incorrect materials, and any other problems that show poor quality and workmanship will give cause to reject any tag. The products are to be guaranteed by the vendor to be free of workmanship or material defect.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE WE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS, DAMAGE, EXPENSE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE OUR PRODUCTS.
