Laser Printable Polyester Labels, WZ

  1. Scope. This specification covers polyester labels that are printable in a laser printer. Applications include Right-To-Know labels, PCB labels, DOT shipping labels or pipe markers.
  2. Base Material. The base film shall be a 0.002" thick polyester film, ICI 329 or equivalent. The base film shall have a minimum thickness of 0.0012" of an acrylic adhesive and a paper liner. The liner shall be a 60# type.
  3. Laser Printable Coating. The base film shall have a laser printable coating applied to the polyester film. The material shall not jam in a Brother 720 laser printer. The thickness of the polyester material shall be 0.002". Coating shall include a compatible anti-stat agent to reduce the effect of "halos" around the image.
    In addition, the coating shall be receptive to marks from a pencil, ballpoint pen or permanent marker. Pencil marks may be erased without damage to the coating. The coating shall have the following characteristics:

    Defacement of Writing Pencil marks of a 2H pencil cannot be rubbed off using hand pressure.

  1. Ink Color & Printing. Conventional solvent-base or UV inks shall be used. The printing type style shall be Helvetica or Univers.
  2. Adhesive Performance. The base material shall be a 0.0012" thick acrylic adhesive having the following minimum values:
  1. Weathering. After 2,000 hours of exposure in a QUV weathering deck the label shall remain adhered and readable. Sample of weathered and printed label shall remain on file at label manufacturer and is available for review by the customer.
  2. Chemical Resistance. The material shall have the following resistance to exposure:

    Water excellent
    Solvents good

 

  1. Size. The labels shall be kiss cut to the liner on a legal, letter or tabloid size of sheet. At least 1/4" waste shall be given on the leading edge of the sheet.
  2. Installation. The labels shall be applied to a clean, dry surface. Use a 3M Scotchbrite pad (or equivalent) to remove any surface oxidation, dirt or paint chalking from application surface and to rough up the surface. After this treatment the surface shall be cleaned with Surface Prep 77 or equal. Labels shall be applied at temperatures above 45ºF.
  3. Warranty. Workmanship and quality shall be such that all lettering is sharp, legible, straight, and aligned properly. Smudges, misalignment, mis-wording, misspelling, crooked letters, incorrect color, incorrect materials, and any other problems that show poor quality and workmanship will give sufficient cause to reject any label. The products are to be guaranteed by the vendor to be free of workmanship or material defect.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE WE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS, DAMAGE, EXPENSE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE OUR PRODUCTS.
